Abstract:In order to know the whole procedures of a thesis and improve my own ability of writing a thesis,the thesis of The Design of New College English at Culture Level and Culture Studies which is a graduation thesis of master degree will be reread.

1.Introduction

Rereading of The Design of New College English at Culture Level and Culture Studies is significance. New College English edited by Zhejiang University is such a kind of materials that conforms to the new syllabus. This thesis will be analyzed from the title,structure,abstract,introduction,literature review,conclusion and bibliography aspects. Some problems and some suggestions of the thesis will be given step by step.
2.Rereading of the Design of New College English at Culture Level and Culture Studies
Firstly,the title will be analyzed. The title of this paper is The Design of New College English at Culture Level and Culture Studies. This title is too wide to express the research significance of this thesis. From this title,this thesis is like an introduction of the book...Therefore,the title should be narrowed to concentrate on the most important content of this thesis.
Secondly,the whole structure of this paper is quite clearly. However,there are still some problems. Some contents of chapter two overlap with the content of chapter four. The two chapters should integrate with each other to some extent. Especially,the 4.1,cultural studies,should put into the chapter two. In chapter four,he writer reviews others'opinions about culture and teaching. Then,the writer analyzes the design of textbook. The link of the two items is too abrupt.
Thirdly,the abstract can express the main content of a thesis.It is very important in a thesis.In this thesis,the abstract is not arranged very well.Although it states the statement,content and significance,it use too many words to description the backgrounds of the Chinese education in first paragraph.In fact,using two or three sentence are enough. In this abstract,the brief introduction of this thesis is illustrated by such as,chapter one,two and so on. It is not a good way to write an abstract. Furthermore,the significance of this paper is not clearly stated in this abstract. Therefore,there is a new abstract for this thesis according to above problems in the following.
Although people he paid more and more attention to the significance of culture in L2 learning,the current situation is still unsatiactory; especially the design of culture learning in the textbook is not efficient. While New College English was produced based on the learner-centered curriculum and it emphasized culture learning. So it is of importance to make an analysis of the passages in New College English at culture level to inspire the design of culture learning in textbooks. The thesis gives a historical review of cultural studies in language teaching field in various countries and describes the current situation in China besides illustrating the relation among culture,language and thought. Furthermore,four enquiries of cultural studies are mentioned. A diagram is drawn to state the relation between the design,foreign language learning,and culture learning. While popular culture represents an important pedagogical site that raises important questions about the elements that organize the basis of learner subjectivity and experience. A particular form of teaching and learning is to regard popular culture as its essential part. While adopting materials,some principles should be followed: practical principle,phased principle and appropriate principle. One point should be especially kept in mind,that is,the materials should not be too difficult and beyond the learners'level.The problems of the Chinese abstract are nearly the same of the English abstract.Therefore,I changed the Chinese abstract according to the problems which I had mentioned in English abstract. Therefore,I will not illustrate the Chinese abstract in detail.

Fourthly,let us move to the introduction.In the introduction,this thesis only mentions the significance of the book but not mentions the research significance.The first sentence“the present thesis intends to make an analysis of the design of passages in new college English at culture level and then mentions some aspects of culture studies and in addition describes the relation between the design and culture learning”is the statement of this paper. However,it is not a good one because it does not include the main content of this thesis. Moreover,there are many non-sense words in paragraph two.The contents of paragraph three overlap manythings with the contents of paragraph two.
Fifthly,Chapter two,background of the study,is the literature review of this thesis.However,it is not like a literature review of this thesis because there is no relationship between this chapter and the title. Moreover,the literature review only introduces others achievement.It is not enough in a literature review.From the title,the writer want to state culture studies,the design of New College English and the relationship between them. According to this,culture studies and the design of textbook in past,present and future should be illustrated and the writer's own view should be explained in this literature review. In this chapter,only the culture is explained. It is too long and meaningless. Then,it should be shortened. The structure of this chapter is in disorder. The literature review can be founded in chapter 4 and the other chapters. Then,the chapter 2 is not a completely literature review.
Sixthly,the conclusion of this paper needs to be analyzed. This conclusion does not summarize the whole thesis very well. Moreover,the significance of this thesis is not illustrated in this conclusion.The structure of this conclusion is not clearly.It is not suitable to use subtitles to cut the conclusion,such as,the strengths and weaknesses of the design and some suggestions.
The last but not the least,the form and structure of the bibliography is clearly and suitable.The form of it is arranged to the standard of bibliography in the academic thesis.

3.Conclusion

Above analyses of the thesis,The Design of New College English at Culture Level and Culture Studies are just from the whole procedures and the form aspects.There are not mention too much about the content and the grammar.The rereading of this thesis aims to find out the problems of the procedures and form of this thesis and improve the ability of writing a thesis.It is meaningful method to study writing a thesis.
